To prepare:
- By Day 1 of this week, your Instructor will assign an i-Human Patients case study for this Assignment. Note: Please see the Course Announcements section of the classroom for your i-Human Patients Assignment.
- Review this week’s Learning Resources. Consider how to assess, diagnose, and treat patients with integumentary conditions.
- Access and review the assigned i-Human Patients case study. Based on the provided patient information, think about the health history you would need to collect from the patient.
- Consider what physical exams and diagnostic tests would be most appropriate to gather more information about the patient’s condition.
- Reflect on how the results would be used to make a diagnosis.
- Identify three to five (3–5) possible conditions that may be considered in a differential diagnosis for the patient.
- Consider the patient’s diagnosis. Think about clinical guidelines that might support this diagnosis.
- Develop a treatment plan for the patient that includes health promotion and patient education strategies for patients with integumentary conditions.

The patient is a 2-year old female with no past medical history, brought to the clinic by her mother due to rapid spreading rash. The rash started this morning on her abdomen and has rapidly spread to the limbs. The patient also presents with a cough and a runny nose which have lasted for three days. The patient had a high fever of 103F, which also started alongside the cough, but resolved yesterday after taking Tylenol. There are no changes in appetite and the amount of wet and stool diapers. The patient has not been in contact with sick people.
Diagnosis: exanthema subitem (HHV-6/roseola)
Tests: None
Medications. Tylenol or ibuprofen for fever as needed. Tylenol oral suspension OTC SIG: take 5ml PO every 4 hours as needed Max dose 25ml in 24 hours, do not exceed 75mg a day Children’s Advil oral suspension OTC SIG: take 5ml PO every 6-8 hours as needed, max 20ml in 24 hours give with food if GI upset occurs.
Referrals: None
Patient education: The patient’s mother should be educated that rash will resolve in 24 hours and can alternate Tylenol and Ibuprofen in case of any fever.. The child should get plenty of rest and increase fluid intake. Medications should be taken as prescribed. Do not give any
