Solution
Primary Diagnosis: Heart Failure
- Describe the pathophysiology of the primary diagnosis in your own words. What are the patient’s risk factors for this diagnosis?
Pathophysiology of Primary Diagnosis
Heart failure is a disorder that occurs when the body fails to pump sufficient blood to meet the metabolic needs of the tissues. As the cardiac output reduces, there is activation of several compensatory mechanisms to improve the mechanical environment of the heart. Some of the compensatory mechanism includes muscle contraction to raise the cardiac output, increasing the heart rate, or developing more muscle mass. However, these mechanism leads to a decline in cardiac performance.
